— The Idea

Between the memory of a historic place and the energy of the city, the project reinterprets the essence of the classic café through a contemporary architectural language, creating an elegant, intimate, and timeless atmosphere that invites you to stay.

— The Setting

01 — CONTEXT & VISION

Located in Lima’s Historic Centre, overlooking the iconic Plaza San Martín, this intimate café forms part of the historic Gran Hotel Bolívar while maintaining a direct connection with the city. With its own street entrance and outdoor terrace, the project reimagines an existing café, preserving its heritage while introducing a contemporary hospitality experience.
Inspired by the tradition of classic urban cafés, the design creates an elegant and timeless space where the history of the hotel meets the everyday rhythm of the city.

— The Concept

02 — DESIGN APPROACH

REINTERPRETING THE ELEGANCE OF THE CLASSIC CAFÉ THROUGH A CONTEMPORARY LENS. The design establishes a distinctive identity within a compact footprint while remaining connected to the historic character of the Gran Hotel Bolívar. The bar and grand pastry display become the architectural focus of the space, combining functionality and visual impact. Dark woods, marble, glass, mirrors and refined metallic accents create depth and sophistication, while contemporary furniture and lighting introduce a lighter, more current expression.
Rather than recreating the past, the project translates classical references into an elegant and contemporary design language.

— The Experience

03 — EXPERIENCE & MATERIALITY

A MEETING POINT BETWEEN THE HOTEL AND THE CITY. The experience flows naturally from the interior to the outdoor terrace, strengthening the café’s relationship with Plaza San Martín. Richly veined marble, deep-toned woods, glass and metallic details create a layered and refined material palette. Natural light enhances these textures throughout the day, while warmer lighting gradually transforms the atmosphere toward the evening.
The result is a contemporary interpretation of the classic café — intimate, sophisticated and timeless, yet deeply connected to its historic setting.
